The Ynyscedwyn Ironworks are located in the nearby town of Ystradgynlais, and in their day were world leaders in the technology of working iron. The arches are an iconic symbol of Ystradgynlais, and the park around them includes other preserved examples of industrial machinery.
Behind the ironworks is a path down to the river, where more industrial remains can be seen, including the supports for a bridge that used to run across it. There is a pleasant walk in either direction along the river path, one direction taking you into Ystradgynlais, the other coming out near Glanrhyd Social Club.
Ystradgynlais Info has a selection of photographs of the Ynyscedwyn Ironworks. Parking is free in a small car park in front of the ironworks, beside the main road. |
